2024 in Review
A Nod to the Austenesque Community

This year has been hectic. The travel bug bit my wife and me: Our feet found Italy in April and a trans-Atlantic cruise—highlighted by stops in Spain, Portugal, and the Azores—in December.
When planted at home, I remastered earlier books, edited content for another Austenesque author’s 2025 work, and published two original Pride and Prejudice Variations.
My Pride and Prejudice/Persuasion crossover, The Sailor’s Rest, was a semifinalist for the 2024 CIBA Goethe Award (best post-1750 fiction).

I participated in the JAFFBub in June and am part of the JAFF Holiday Giveaway through Christmas. A-n-n-n-d, several Work-In-Progress Zoom sessions led up to the 2024 JAFF Writer/Reader Get-Together WIPs in Las Vegas.
Whew! There was little time to get bored, that’s for sure!

The Austenesque community of readers and authors has been a constant wellspring of support for my journey through the world of Jane Austen Variations. You have buoyed me with support for my efforts to write new tales using the characters created by a thoughtful writer some two hundred-plus years ago. That you have allowed me the freedom to begin where Austen left off shows your confidence that I will do my best to be authentic while speaking my truth.

Looking ahead:
I have two new works on the boards and am building the stories organically. One is a post-Mr. Bennet tale in which the hedgerows are Mrs. Bennet’s boarding house on Fenchurch Street near India House. The other is a World War II adventure with Darcy and Elizabeth dueling the Nazis and a particularly noxious version of George Wickham. I'm not sure if he will end up at the bottom of a well in Provence or the end of a noose in Nuremberg.
Time will tell.
